Electrical Rebates and Tax Credits on Long Island in 2026: What's Left

A lot of electrical marketing on Long Island still promises tax credits that no longer apply to new work. Here’s where things actually stand in October 2026.

What ended

Credit What it covered When it ended
Federal 25C (Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit) 30% of qualifying costs, including electrical panel upgrades (up to $600) For improvements placed in service after December 31, 2025
Federal 30C (home EV charger credit) 30% of charger costs up to $1,000, including necessary panel and wiring work For property placed in service after June 30, 2026

“Placed in service” is the date that matters, not when you signed the contract or paid a deposit. A panel finished in January 2026 didn’t qualify for 25C, even if it was ordered in December. Talk to a tax professional about any 2025 or early-2026 work you’re still filing for.

What’s still available on Long Island

PSEG Long Island Residential Charger Rebate

  • $100 for a qualified Level 2 home charger.
  • Up to $400 total for customers in Disadvantaged Communities or on PSEG LI’s Household Assistance Program.
  • Check the qualified-charger and installation requirements before you buy hardware.

PSEG Long Island heat pump programs

PSEG Long Island continues to offer incentives for replacing heating and cooling equipment with high-efficiency heat pumps through its Home Comfort program, and a 2026 rebate for heat pump water heaters. Amounts vary by system and change from year to year, so confirm current numbers with PSEG LI (Energy Infoline: 1-800-692-2626) or a participating installer before relying on them.

What we didn’t find

We found no stand-alone PSEG Long Island rebate for panel upgrades in 2026. If a heat pump is the reason you need 200 amps, ask the HVAC installer and PSEG LI whether any of the project qualifies, and plan the panel upgrade with it.

How this changes the math

  • EV charger: the incentive is now mostly the PSEG LI rebate. Getting the install right matters more: a load-management device instead of a service upgrade can save more than any credit would have. See EV charger costs.
  • Panel upgrade: budget the full $3,200–$5,800 typical turnkey cost without a federal credit. See the panel upgrade cost guide.
  • Heat pump projects: still the best-subsidized electrification path on Long Island. Ask about the electrical side before the HVAC contract is signed.

Spotting outdated advice

If a quote or web page promises the 25C credit for panel work or the 30C credit for a charger installed now, ask the contractor to show the current rule. It’s an easy way to see whether they keep up, and it’s a good reason to check their license while you’re at it.
