Watch out for outdated advice
Some contractor websites still advertise the 25C credit for panel upgrades or the 30C credit for chargers. Check the date your equipment will be placed in service, not when you sign the contract, and confirm with a tax professional before counting on any credit.
Where incentives still help
- EV chargers: the PSEG LI rebate is small but real. Buy a qualified charger and keep the paperwork. EV charger costs.
- Heat pumps: if a heat pump is what's pushing you to 200 amps, ask the HVAC installer and PSEG LI whether the project qualifies, and plan the panel upgrade alongside it.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a tax credit for an electrical panel upgrade in 2026?
Not a federal one for new work. The 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, which covered panel upgrades (up to $600), ended for improvements placed in service after December 31, 2025.
Can I still claim the EV charger tax credit?
Only for chargers placed in service by June 30, 2026. The federal 30C credit doesn't apply to chargers installed after that date.
Does PSEG Long Island have a rebate for panel upgrades?
We haven't found a stand-alone PSEG Long Island panel rebate. Heat pump programs may be worth asking about if the panel work is part of a heat pump project. Call the PSEG LI Energy Infoline to confirm.
How often is this page updated?
Whenever a program changes. Check the 'Last updated' date at the top, and confirm amounts with the program before you buy equipment.
