Brookhaven's code says inspections shall be made only by qualified inspectors designated by the Town Board. Qualifying inspectors need at least 10 years of field experience and IAEI certification for one- and two-family dwellings, and their organizations must carry insurance naming the Town.

Homes in Brookhaven and the electrical work they need
The widest range on Long Island: historic homes in Setauket, Stony Brook and Bellport where old wiring methods turn up; 1960s–80s neighborhoods in Centereach, Selden, Coram and Medford on 100A–150A service; and newer, larger homes on wooded lots in Manorville, Ridge and Miller Place that add pools, generators and EV chargers.
Storms, flooding and local conditions
Wooded lots in the Pine Barrens hamlets mean long overhead service drops through trees and frequent storm outages, which is why standby generators are a common request here. South Shore Mastic, Mastic Beach and Shirley are low and flood-exposed; North Shore bluff communities have long runs from the road.
What drives the price in Brookhaven
Generator installs and long underground runs on big lots are the main cost drivers. Flood-zone work in Mastic Beach and Shirley can add panel or meter relocation.
Island-wide ranges: panel upgrade cost · generator cost · EV charger cost.

Brookhaven electrician FAQ
Who can inspect electrical work in Brookhaven?
Only inspectors from agencies the Town Board has approved. The Town's Division of Building publishes the list, and your electrician schedules the inspection.
We lose power a lot in Ridge. Is a standby generator worth it?
For homes with long overhead drops through trees, well pumps, sump pumps or medical equipment, many owners decide yes. A licensed electrician can size it and handle the transfer switch and inspection.
I live in Port Jefferson Village. Do Town rules apply?
Incorporated villages (Port Jefferson, Patchogue, Bellport, Lake Grove and others) have their own building departments. Check with the village.
